Why buy original art?- A gallery owners view

art

Buying your first piece of art should be an exciting step on the way to having a small art collection of your own.

Do you remember moving into your first flat? Desperate to make it your own you probably bought posters to adorn the walls. Then you may even have bought a clip frame to put them in, or moved on to the luxury of framed prints. Over time however prints can fade and poster begin to look a bit tatty. Pieces of art don’t have to be big or expensive; you just have to love them!

As you look back each piece if art will take you to a place in your life where you can remember events. People and places that have been dear to you. If you have fallen in love with it then you can be sure that the artist or sculptor who created has put a lot of effort into the work. For them it is a true labour of love as well as a means to earn a living. By buying one of their art works you will have given them the confidence to go on creating.

Buying art need not to be expensive. Prices often start at around £100 for a small piece. Think how much a handbag or shoes cost. For special occasion there can be few better gifts. A present to your husband on your wedding day, a gift for your goddaughter on her 21st birthday, or a celebration of a holiday in a special place, al of these will bring happiness for many years.

Pop into your local art gallery the next time you are out and you will find something you like. Make space in your home for it and you wont regret it.

I am really getting into art at the moment and have been thinking of buying for some time. I have been looking at AON Art insurance. Has anybody taken out art insurance before? The AON policy protects private collectors which is great. If anybody has any advice/ experience I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks

Dependent on the value of the art you are purchasing it is worth considering a seperate art policy, however this only becomes beneficial and cost effective where your art collection exceeds £100,000. Our recommendation for new collectors would be to take out a specialist high net worth home insurance policy. Please take a look at the following link for more information http://www.executivehomeinsurance.co.uk/art-insurance.
