Shipping Art? Here’s one headache sorted

June 19, 2013 By admin-ehc Leave a Comment

Shipping art abroad is full of headaches – getting the right packaging, trusting the handlers, the cost and on top of it all there’s the insurance.

Arranging cover for art work and valuables being shipped abroad can be problematic as shipping companies and couriers have specific insurance exclusions for “high value items” and items that they consider to be of a vulnerable nature.

You are left to source your own insurance cover which isn’t easy. There are only a very limited number of insurers that can offer this shipping art insurance either on a one off basis or annually.

At Greenfield Insurance Services we have a solution to the problem of insuring art moving around the world (or within the UK). We have partnered with one of the UK leading Goods In Transit Insurers and can offer a cost effective insurance solution.

Our Cargo Insurance policy is backed by A-Rated Lloyds Security.

We can cater for one off shipments or annual policies should you wish to ship more than one item during the course of a year.

The policy will provide cover against such perils as:

  • Rainwater
  • Malicious Damage
  • Breakage
  • Pilferage
  • Theft
  • Non delivery (after 60 days)

Excesses are typically around £100 and cover can be arranged the same day, we simply need the following information:

  • Insured name and address
  • Details of the shipment including value
  • Method of packing
  • Details of departure and destination

How much does art shipment insurance cost?

As a guide to premium cost, a single item of art valued at £11,000 from London to Hong Kong by air freight works out at around £100.

Annual policies with art shipments within the EU to a value of £80,000 works out at around £350 per annum.

In the unfortunate event of needing to make a claim we can assist you during the claims process. The reputation has been built around their excellent claims service.
